In Summary

Job Description

Actuaries aren’t just good at maths. They’re also whizzes at solving problems and they save our customers from losing out by assessing risks and avoiding unnecessary ones. As an actuary, you will be experiencing and shaping each department and area of our business. In other words, you’ll be the thought behind every number and help craft how we operate. Think you can step up to the plate?

Your role, more specifically:

Every 18-24 months, you’ll move to a different actuarial team where you will pick up new skills and make a huge impact. We’ll help you to achieve the class of Fellow with the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA) – which means you’ll become a fully qualified actuary and gain your master’s equivalent qualifications too! We’ll seek to get you through your training in 4-5 years, with the help of your line manager, buddy and your qualified mentor.

What's in it for you?

  • A permanent job from day one
  • A starting salary of £30,600, with regular increases to recognise exam success
  • A Level 7 Apprenticeship qualification (equivalent to a master’s, minus the fees)
  • Internationally recognised training
  • Up to 50 days of paid study leave
  • A free qualification with the IFoA (when we say free, we mean we’ll pay for it!)
  • 29 days holiday, plus bank holidays
  • Contributory pension scheme
  • Discounts on all Aviva productsAnnual performance-related bonus
  • Share Save scheme
  • Flexible working and wellbeing support

What do we need from you?

  • You will either already have a degree in a STEM or numerical subject or be on track to graduate by the end of Summer 2023 with a minimum 2:1 expected or acheived
  • A passion for numbers and problem-solving
  • A curious and courageous mentality
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Outstanding creative-thinking and problem-solving skills

Where will you be based?

Our Actuarial grad roles are in Bristol, Eastleigh, Norwich and York. They are beautiful, buzzing towns in which to embark your career and once you’ve qualified, you will have the chance to broaden your horizons in any of our offices around the UK or maybe even further afield.

But you might not need to be in the office every day. At Aviva, we ask our teams to think about when they work in the office and when they choose to work at home. This will vary depending on your role and your personal circumstances. We call this Smart Working. When you move to each new assignment, take time to discuss this with your Leader and agree what works for you, the business and the organisation.

About Us

We’re a leading international insurance, savings, retirement and investment business. When the worst happens, we’re here to put the wrongs right.  You might be thinking that we’re just another boring, corporate firm. But we don’t all wear suits and shiny shoes here. We’re proud to be different and just like our customers, our people are a mix of cultures, genders and ages.
Like the sound of us? Then we like the sound of you.

Press 'apply' to be taken through to our online application, where you'll answer a short questionnaire about your motivations. You'll also be able to attach your CV. If you match our criteria, we’ll ask you to complete our Situational Strengths and Numerical Reasoning tests. Pass those and next will be a video interview. The final stage is a virtual assessment day, with tasks that enable you to show us what you're good at and what you enjoy.

Impress us there and we'll offer you a role to start in September 2023.
