Job Description
Dates of internship: 2nd July – 6th September 2024
Locations: Norwich or York
Our 10 week paid summer internship offers students the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the Technology and Change Delivery world while getting a head start on a future career. If your internship goes well, you may be offered the opportunity to return as a Graduate in a permanent role in September 2025.
This is an exciting learning opportunity set in an environment where everyone is welcome to share ideas, ask questions and seek advice. And don’t worry, you don’t need to have studied IT at university to join us in one of our Tech Change Delivery internships. We are looking for people who are curious and passionate about technology and delivering change safely, and we can teach you the rest — our graduates have studied everything from Town Planning to Maths, from Marketing to History, and they’re all equally brilliant.
What does it involve? Our Tech Change Delivery roles are suited to people who are naturally curious — big picture thinkers who enjoy identifying and solving problems, creating innovative new solutions and who aren’t afraid to challenge the status quo. If you enjoy planning and organising and you like to influence thinking and the way things are donethis route could be a good match for you.
During your internship you’ll be aligned to a team and enabled to work with colleagues on live initiatives that have real business impact. Our Tech Change Delivery internship roles are:
- Business Analyst (Norwich or York) — our Business Analysts help us understand the customer and business needs we need to meet — and what’s required to deliver the practical solutions to meet them. If you’re the kind of person who can explain complex concepts and problems in a simple way, this is the place for you. You’ll analyse and evaluate business opportunities and identify areas for improvement. And in everything you do, you’ll champion the use of technology to improve how we do things for our 18.7 million customers and thousands of colleagues.
- Project Manager (Norwich or York) — our Project Managers are experts in organising both themselves and others! They’re comfortable taking the lead, yet make sure everyone is heard. With a passion for delivering great customer service and a mix of people and planning skills, our Project Managers are just the people to make sure everything gets done in the right way, at the right time and on budget.
- Risk Analyst (Norwich) — management of risk plays an important role across all our change deliveries and day-to-day operations. It ensures we’re keeping our technology, our colleagues and, ultimately, our 18.7 million customers safe. As a Risk Analyst you will work with technical and non-technical teams to ensure risks (uncertainties, potential threats) are identified, assessed and have appropriate action plans in place (and managed!) to reduce or remove risk and ensure safe and successful delivery. You’ll have similar skills and strengths to Project Managers and Business Analysts and will be comfortable being curious and inquisitive, collaborating across teams and analysing and identifying areas for improvement.
You will also be a confident communicator who can explain complex concepts clearly and concisely. Whichever opportunity you take, the breadth of experience and the variety of skills you can gain is immense. The work you do will be interesting and challenging. And you’ll do it with the full support of our brilliant change & technology community.
Your application will be for the whole pathway. We ask you to keep an open mind about role preferences because, throughout the recruitment process, we’ll be looking to understand which role we think will suit you best. That said, if you have a preference, you can let us know.
Our internships are designed to be a pipeline into our Graduate Programmes. After the successful completion of your placement, you may be offered a permanent graduate role starting with us in September 2025 (after successful completion of your course).
What’s in it for you?
- A generous salary of £25,750 per annum (pro-rata for 10 weeks)
- Valuable real-world work experience to complement your university studies
- Tremendous scope to deepen your knowledge and understanding of the technology and insurance industries
- Opportunity to learn from experienced change & technology professionals who will be on hand to support and encourage you every step of the way
- Build business and interpersonal skills to launch your future career (hopefully with us!)
- 25 days holiday, plus bank holidays per annum (pro-rata for 10 weeks)
- Contributory pension scheme
- Eligible for performance-related bonus
- Discount on all Aviva products
- Flexible working and wellbeing support
- The prospect of a permanent role when you finish your degree (2025)

Our summer internships are designed to be a feeder into our Graduate Programmes. Where you’ll be based:We offer Change Delivery internship roles in our Norwich or York offices. Not all roles are available in all locations so you may need to be flexible about where you work and be willing to relocate if you don’t currently live within commuting distance of the relevant office for the role.
It is likely that you’ll balance time in the office with working from home. We call this smart working. Three days in the office and two days from home per week is typical but may vary between teams. When you join us, your leader will take time to discuss this with you, and agree what works best for you, your team and the business.
It’s important to note that, as we work this office/home blend, you will need to live within commuting distance of your offered office location. That way you will get to spend time with your team in person, as well as virtually, and get access to the right support networks internally to help you to succeed.
