Job Description

Ready to shine bright in your career?

In a nutshell, this role is all about maths and the mathematical thinking that underpins everything we do. This four-to-five year programme will give you exposure to different Actuarial teams, from Healthcare Reporting to Data Science and Digital. We’ll empower you to take control of your own work and progression, giving you more responsibility and opportunities to grow.

From the moment you join us, you’ll be in a permanent position where you can own and drive your development.

Get to know the role

From reporting to pricing, from valuations to solvency, and from data to digital, our actuaries have a big say in everything we do.  So if you’re a natural problem-solver and you’d love to be an important part of an important company, you’ll find this an extremely empowering place to be.

On average, you’ll spend between four and five years on the programme, during which time you’ll move to a different actuarial team every 18 months or so. These teams cover everything from Healthcare Reporting to Data Science and Digital.

Along the way, it’s you’ll work towards your IFoA qualifications so by the end of the scheme you'll be a fully-qualified actuary.

What you’ll get

  • A permanent job from day one
  • A starting salary of £33,500
  • Support towards relevant professional qualifications and lots of other development opportunities
  • A great support network to help you grow into your role
  • 29 days holiday, plus bank holidays
  • Flexible working and wellbeing support
  • Opportunities to get involved and give back to our local communities with paid volunteering time
  • Contributory pension scheme
  • Discounts on all Aviva products
  • Annual performance-related bonus
  • Share Save scheme

What we’re looking for

  • You'll either have a degree, in a numerical or STEM-related subject, or be on track to graduate by the end of Summer 2025.
  • An analytical mind and talent for problem solving.
  • An eagerness to develop your commercial mind.
  • The perception to recognise new opportunities.

Where could you be based?

Our Actuarial opportunities are based in  York, Bristol, Norwich, and Eastleigh: all buzzing places in which to launch your career. Not all role types are available in every location, so tell us on your application if you have a preference. It’s important that you live within commuting distance of the office where the role is based, or be willing to relocate prior to start date as you’ll need to spend time with your team in person, as well as virtually, working from home. Three days in the office and two days from home is typical, but this will vary between teams.

How to apply

The application deadline is December 15th. However, we may close the application process earlier if we receive a large number of suitable applications.

To set your expectations and help you prepare, there are four steps in our graduate application process:

  1. Online application - complete a short questionnaire about your motivations, and submit it along with a copy of your CV.
  2. Online situational strengths and numerical reasoning
  3. Video interview
  4. Virtual assessment day with tasks that enable you to show us what you're good at and what you enjoy.

Shine there and we'll offer you a role to start in September 2025.

Please note: At Aviva we offer multiple graduate pathways, of which, this is one. We ask that you only apply for one pathway - the one that most aligns to your strengths and interests. If you do make more than one application, we will only accept your first.
