Actuarial Graduate Pathway - 2024

  • Location:
  • Salary: £33,500
  • Closes: 06 November 2023

In Summary

Maths can have the predictive powers of a crystal ball (seriously) and we want someone who can wield them. Do you think you’re up to the task? Then we want to hear from you!

Job Description

Actuaries aren’t just good at maths. They’re also whizzes at solving problems and they save our customers from losing out by assessing risks and avoiding unnecessary ones.

As an actuary here, you'll get to experience and help shape each department and area of our business. In other words, you’ll provide the thinking behind the numbers and help define how we operate. Think you can rise to the challenge?

What does it involve?

Join us on this Pathway and your training will generally take around 4-5 years. Every 18-24 months during that time, you’ll move to a different Actuarial team where you'll pick up new skills and see first-hand how your work impacts the wider business.  Along the way, you'll also work also towards a Level 7 Apprenticeship and a professional qualification with the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA). So, by the time you finish, you’ll be a fully qualified actuary with a master’s equivalent qualification behind you.

What's in it for you?

  • A permanent job from day one
  • A starting salary of £33,500
  • A Level 7 Apprenticeship qualification (equivalent to a master’s, minus the fees)
  • Internationally recognised training
  • Up to 50 days of paid study leave
  • A professional qualification with the IFoA (which we'll pay for too)
  • 29 days holiday, plus bank holidays
  • Contributory pension scheme
  • Discounts on all Aviva products
  • Annual performance-related bonus
  • Share Save scheme
  • Flexible working and wellbeing support

What do we look for?

  • A STEM degree is required
  • A passion for numbers and problem-solving
  • A curious mind and a courageous approach
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Outstanding creative-thinking and problem-solving skills

Where will you be based?

During your training, you'll be based in Bristol, Eastleigh, Norwich, or York – all great locations in which to launch your career. Once you’ve qualified, you'll have the chance to broaden your horizons in any of our offices around the UK – or maybe even further afield.

But you might not need to be in the office every day. At Aviva, we ask our teams to think about when they work in the office and when they choose to work at home. We call this Smart Working.

It varies depending on your role and personal circumstances, but three days in the office and two from home is fairly typical. When you move to each new assignment, you'll discuss this with your Leader and agree what works for you, your team and the business.

This mix of home- and office-based working does, however, mean that you'll need to live (or relocate) within commuting distance of one of the locations above.

About Us

We’re a leading international insurance, savings, retirement, and investment business. We're here to help our customers plan for the future and, when the worst happens, make things right.

You might be thinking that we’re just another boring, corporate firm. But we don’t all wear suits and shiny shoes here. We’re proud to be different and just like our customers, our people are a mix of cultures, genders, and ages.

What's the application process?

Start by clicking 'apply' at the bottom of this page, which will take you through to our online application page.

There, you'll be asked to complete a short questionnaire about your motivations and submit it along with a copy of your CV.

If you match our criteria (or get pretty close), we’ll ask you to complete our Situational Strengths and Numerical Reasoning tests.

Pass those and next will be a video interview. The final stage is a virtual assessment day, with tasks that enable you to show us what you're good at and what you enjoy.

Impress us there and we'll offer you a role to start in September 2024.

We interview every disabled applicant who meets the minimum criteria for the job. During your application there will be an opportunity for you send us an email stating that you have a disclosed disability.
